Magpie Magazine documents trinkets, keepsakes and their relationship with our identity. Magpie argues that sentimentality is a strength, not a weakness. Using photography, print and written word the magazine will display images of personal objects and the story behind them. Aiming to open a conversation around sentimentality and, in the first issue, it’s relationship with our gender identity. Issue 1 coming soon. 






I began this project by creating a call out poster asking people send in images of their most beloved keepsakes and trinkets. I posted this on social media and shared it with my peers. With the intention of recieving a varied and intergenerational response I also sent it to charities such as Age UK and local Women’s Institutes. I used these images to create content for the magazine, my main mediums being photography and printing techniques. After collecting a variety of images I used risograph printing to create a little sister zine as a prelude to the final publication.
